Principal's Message

Kevin Her

Dear Great Kirk Families,

My name is Kevin Her, and I’m truly humbled and honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of Great Kirk Elementary, beginning in August 2025. First and foremost, welcome to the 2025–26 school year! I’m excited to meet you and begin this new journey together.

Let me share a little about myself with our school community. I am Hmong and was born in Laos. My family and I resettled in Huntington Beach in 1980, and then moved to Fresno in 1982. As a student, I began my education as a kindergartener at Mayfair Elementary, and later attended Hidalgo, Webster, Tehipite, Scandinavian, and graduated from McLane High School. After high school, I attended Fresno State. I am a proud product of Fresno Unified, and it is truly meaningful to serve the very district that helped shape who I am today.

I started my teaching career at Jefferson Elementary and later became an instructional coach, supporting teachers directly in their classrooms. From there, I became the Vice Principal at Norseman Elementary for nine years and then had the privilege of serving as Norseman’s Principal for the past eight years.

My vision is simple and heartfelt: I believe every child, no matter their background, neighborhood, or family circumstances deserves a high-quality education and the tools to reach their fullest potential. It’s my responsibility to make sure that happens every day at Great Kirk.

I also believe that a strong school thrives on strong partnerships. I look forward to working closely with you, our families and community members to make Great Kirk not only a great place for learning, but a welcoming place for everyone. I invite you to be part of our school community in any way you can.

Wishing you and your children a wonderful 2025-26 school year ahead!

Warmly,

Kevin Her
Principal
Great Kirk Elementary School
